Our Story

A design company that happens to specialize in fire.

LUMACAST was not founded to build another outdoor fire feature. It was founded on a belief: that a fire feature deserves the same design consideration, engineering, and permanence as the architecture around it — that it should quietly elevate a space rather than simply occupy it.

Every collection begins with a blank page, and evolves through sketching, digital modeling, 3D-printed scale models, engineering, prototyping, and relentless refinement — until every proportion, transition, and detail feels exactly as it should.

We have spent two decades learning one humble, expressive material. Concrete responds to climate, chemistry, timing, and touch, which makes every cast a dialogue between maker and material. Lighter, stronger, more sustainable — and never quite finished improving.

Great design isn't defined by scale. It's defined by the clarity of its ideas and the care with which they're executed.

Meet the Founder

Work that quietly earns its place in the lives of the people who gather around it.

Architect by training, licensed contractor by conviction — Zachary Alan Smith spent twenty years learning concrete by hand before LUMACAST existed. Colorado, UCLA, a Master of Architecture, and an award-winning thesis on high-performance concrete. Then the molds, the mixes, and the pours.
