The right detail changes everything. A surface becomes a statement. A material shift brings balance. A functional component transforms into something quietly architectural.
That’s the role hardwood plays in the Lumacast collection. More than an accessory, this material is designed to bring warmth, depth, and natural contrast to sculptural concrete forms—refining the experience and anchoring the space around them.
Natural Material, Engineered to Perform
Thermally modified ash is engineered to perform outdoors, but its appeal goes well beyond utility. Through a chemical-free process of heat and steam, the wood becomes dimensionally stable, moisture-resistant, and naturally durable—without losing its warmth or beauty.
Over time, the surface patinas gracefully, developing tone and character that reflect its environment. For those who prefer a freshly finished look, light sanding brings the surface back to its original clarity. It’s a material that evolves without losing its integrity—and one that never asks for constant maintenance in return.
Precision at Every Layer
Each hardwood tabletop or component begins with a carefully curated selection of boards—grouped by tone, grain pattern, and overall visual harmony. The boards are sanded to remove surface imperfections, then templated to match the dimensions of the final product, model by model. After being rough-cut into sections, the layout is fine-tuned by hand to ensure the best overall aesthetic before heading to the CNC.
Once mounted, the CNC router performs the final shaping and pre-drilling, ensuring consistent tolerances and a perfect fit. A final sanding removes any machining marks, preserving the clean edges and natural texture of the wood. Each section is then affixed to a custom aluminum backer plate—precision-drilled and powder-coated for long-term strength. Once assembled, the finished product is wiped down, inspected, and prepared for delivery.
“It takes a lot of hard work to make something simple.”
— Steve Jobs
That philosophy guides every step of the process. From the careful fit of each board to the millimeter-level precision of the aluminum backer plate beneath, these tops are built to look seamless and function effortlessly.
Design Integration, Not Add-On
Hardwood is engineered directly into the products it supports—not layered on as an afterthought. Its thickness, weight, and proportion are accounted for in the core geometry of each compatible model. The result is seamless: aligned edges, balanced proportions, and material clarity.
Where concrete provides sculptural weight and permanence, hardwood introduces a warm counterpoint. Grain and tone soften the form. Texture adds tactility. Together, they create compositions that feel grounded, natural, and refined.
Available Where It Matters
Hardwood surfaces are now integrated across multiple pieces in the Lumacast collection—expanding the ways this material can be used to define layout, contrast, and tone.
Fire Feature Tabletops
Protect the burner and create a functional surface when the fire is not in use.
Tank Covers
Optional hardwood tops turn these clean-lined covers into low-profile side tables or sculptural layout extensions.
RAIO Benches & End Tables (Coming Soon)
Designed to continue the RAIO line’s soft geometry—offered in both concrete and hardwood-topped configurations.
A Material That Grounds the Space
Hardwood offers more than surface utility. It brings warmth, human scale, and tactile richness—qualities that deepen the connection between object and environment. Whether used for function, flow, or visual softness, it helps shape spaces that feel as good as they look.
Not just a surface. A material that transforms the whole experience.
